Profile: Graffiti Artist Trase One
One of Singapore’s prominent activists in the local graffiti/ street art movement, Trase has been actively involved in grooming Singapore’s young graffiti/street art scene since he started graffiti writing in ‘98.
From his initial beginnings as a young graffiti artist scrawling the streets, he has embraced both street art and fine arts into his practice resulting in juxtaposition of text and imagery. He enjoys being spontaneous and controlled at the same time, which eventually leads him to discover all the surprises in between.
A full-time artist and street art educator, Trase is regarded as one of the leading young artists responsible for pushing boundaries and overseeing the progression of the local graffiti art movement. Awarded the inaugural Goh Chok Tong Youth Promise Award in 2005, Trase was given the opportunity the further his education in Art, eventually graduating with an honours degree in 2007.
Trase’s specialty in handling the spray paint as his primary medium has won him several awards and competitions, with the most recent being the champion in ZOUK’s annual Fresh hip hop party’s graffiti painting competition. He has also exhibited numerous works in several world traveling exhibitions, mainly in the US and Asia.
Eternally in an experimental stage, he is constantly fusing different disciplines and mediums in achieving works that are considered Neo-Graffiti.
